Description: On offer, we have a Jacob Maris windmill in the Dutch countryside, one of his favorite subjects. It is signed in the print on the lower right "J. Maris". Jacob Maris (1837-1899) is considered the most influential Dutch landscape painter of the last quarter of the 19th century. Also signed in the print on the lower left is "J.F. Obers. sc". This is signed by him in pencil on the lower margin "J. Obers". Joan Francois Obbes (1869-1963) was a painter and lithographer. He would have been 30 when Maris passed away so they, possibly worked on this together? The remarque is, I believe, in the print. The lower margin has an impressed mark "F. Buffa & Fils Editrurs Amsterdam". This is on cardboard, or board, with the image measuring 24 1/2" X 17 1/2" and the matte 30" X 23". This is in excellent antique condition. The etching is bold and clear, but as you can see it has toned. The matte covers the bottom of the ship remarque and the front is no longer attached to the board lithograph. As I am not an expert, on art please view my photographs for more description. This is from my friend who is moving to a much smaller home and parting with many of his treasures. I will be happy to answer any questions and, of course, combine your shipping when possible. As always I will search for your best shipping option.
