Directions are sent in English and Spanish. Our plate hangers are wonderful! They work by solidly adhering to the plate and are easily removed with warm water. The disc plate hanger also has excellent adhesion to unvarnished wood and hardboard. It is ideal for hanging plates, tiles, ceramic art, studio pottery plates, fused glass plates, small pictures and 3D objects of many sizes. The disc can be trimmed to fit the shape of your unique piece. The discs should not be used when you want to preserve a paper label on the plate, on paint, metals or out-of-doors. To remove a disc, simply soak it in warm water. QUICK DIRECTIONS FOR USE1. First clean the back of the plate by hand, even if the plate is new, vigorously using scouring powder or liquid, or a dishwashing liquid. Rinse completely clean and allow it to dry. 2. Using your fingers mix a little water into the glue on the disc. Really work the glue up, being careful to not rinse any of the glue off the disc. Leave for 3 to 7 minutes until the glue is sticky. 3. Apply the disc to the plate ensuring that the ring is in the correct position for the plate design. Press firmly and rub well to expel any air. Allow it dry overnight. 4. Before hanging the plate test the strength of adhesion by pulling firmly on the ring in the direction toward the top of the plate. This step will insure that the disc has properly bonded.FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS AND TIPS People frequently ask me why it's important to scour clean a new plate. Even a brand new plate out of the box has oily residue from our hands from simply handling them. This residue can cause the glue from the plate hangers from adhering properly and must be removed. Handle the plate carefully so that the foot of the plate, where you will be putting the plate hanger, is not touched before putting the plate hanger on it after washing. Every plate is different and sometimes the foot of the plate, the center of the back, is too small to hold the size of plate hanger necessary for the weight of the plate. It is possible then to put two plate hangers on using picture hanging wire between them. A rule of thumb is a pound of plate for every inch of plate hanger, but if you have a larger foot, I recommend going to the largest size that will fit. When it's time to put your plate hangers on your plates I find that it's best to sit down with a glass of water rather than holding them over the sink. In this way you can adjust the amount of water you add to the plate hanger without risking having some of the glue run off the hanger into the sink. Dip your fingers in the water and get plenty of water on the plate hanger. The glue is dried to the back of the plate hanger, sometimes giving the back of the plate hanger that cracked appearing finish, and what you are doing is using the water to rehydrate the glue. Get enough water on, while avoiding having any of it run off, and really work the glue up off of the back of the plate hanger. Be sure to get the glue out to the edges of the plate hanger. In 3 to 7 minutes you should have a very sticky surface on the back of the hanger. When positioning the plate hanger make sure that the design on the front of the plate is situated in the position that you want it. Try to put the plate hanger far enough down on the plate to avoid having the ring showing at the top of the plate when it is hung on the nail or hook. It's necessary to allow the plate hanger to dry thoroughly overnight. These plate hangers have been used in England for generations. While there are metal plates hanging for all that time, the manufacturer no longer recommends them on metal surfaces. The vast array of metallurgical variations makes success unsure and we advise against use on plates that you value. Our glue is milder so as to not damage the surface of the plate or make the plate hanger unable to be removed. If you have items that are heavier than recommended for the plate hanger or on metal, you can add glue that can’t be removed.
